The invitations are on the table, and the hair you see in your mind for the season is a little longer and fuller than the hair in the mirror. Clip-ins and ponytails go in at home, in minutes, with no appointment. Tape-ins and the YB Technique are different. A stylist applies them one section at a time, and your hair lives with her work for months. So the conversation before you book matters as much as the shade you choose. Our tape-in extensions are 100% Remy human hair, and Youmi’s own instructions say a professional must apply them, remove them and reapply them.
Have you worked with this method before?
Tape-ins and nano rings need different skills. A tape-in weft is pressed flat onto a thin section of your own hair. YB Technique strands go in one by one, each with a tiny ring closed around a few of your own hairs, with no glue and no heat. Our guide to the YB Technique explains the method in full.
Ask which one she does most often. A stylist who applies tape-ins every week knows where the wefts sit comfortably, and where they show when you tie your hair up.
How many packs does my hair need?
This is the first number to agree on, because it decides both the cost and the finish.
Each pack of La Brownla, a warm medium brown that melts into milky brown at the ends, has 20 tape wefts, 55 cm long and 50 g in all. Youmi’s guide is easy to follow. One pack adds thickness and keeps your current length. Two packs cover half the head and add thickness to fine or medium hair. Three cover three quarters of the head and add length as well. Four packs make a full head, with length and thickness, on medium to thick hair.
The YB Technique is counted in pieces instead. Around 100 to 150 pieces add light volume, and 250 to 350 give the most length. Ask her to count with you, with your hair in front of her, before anything is ordered.
Will you match the shade at my roots?
Your roots show your true color, and the top of every weft sits right beside them. Youmi’s own rule is to stay within two shades of your natural color at the root.
Ask your stylist to hold a weft against your roots by a window, in daylight, before she starts.
How will you protect my scalp?
Extensions add weight, and weight pulls on the hair it rests on.
In March 2026, a review of the research on hair extensions and hair loss appeared in the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery Open. It reports that steady pulling over a long time can make hairs grow thinner, most often at the front of the head and the temples. Tape adhesives and removers can irritate the skin or cause an allergic reaction. It also found that most early damage can be reversed when the load is reduced early and the scalp is treated. Patch testing and spreading the weight evenly are among the steps it lists to lower the risk.
So ask whether she will test the tape on a small patch of skin first. Ask how she spreads the weight, so that no single section carries too much, and how close to your hairline she places the wefts. If anything feels tight or sore in the first days, tell her straight away.
What happens every two months?
Tape-ins need a return visit. Youmi recommends removal and reapplication every two months, by a professional, and the same extensions can be reapplied up to five times. With proper care, they last six to twelve months.
Ask what that visit includes and which tape she uses to put your wefts back in. Our Tape-In Hair Sticker is medical grade and hypoallergenic, with a hold of up to 10 weeks.
How should I care for them between visits?
Ask what to avoid in the first days after application. The everyday care comes from Youmi’s own instructions. Shampoo and condition regularly, and brush gently from the ends upward. Keep the hair away from too much heat, and from long hours in chlorine or saltwater, so it stays soft for longer.
If your calendar includes a beach weekend or a pool day in Dubai, ask your stylist how to protect the tape.
When should I book before an event?
Youmi gives no fixed number of days, so this one is for your stylist. The cycle of two months still helps you plan. If a wedding in Riyadh falls about two months after your appointment, your first maintenance visit lands in the same week. Count forward from the date you book, and choose a day that keeps your busiest weekends clear.
Before you book
A good stylist is happy to answer every one of these questions. She has heard them many times, and the way she answers shows you how she works. Take your time, ask them all, and then enjoy the length you came for.
